Synopsis:

HAVEN: THE FINAL SEASON presents hometown heroes Audrey, Nathan (Lucas Bryant), Duke (Eric Balfour) and Dwight (Adam Copeland), with challenges unlike any they’ve experienced before. Across 13 action-packed final episodes, the town of Haven has been cut off from the rest of the world by a mysterious fog bank and is on its own. Through journeys into the past, the future, and the very fabric between worlds, events in Haven hurtle towards a cataclysmic showdown. Will the heroes be able to rid Haven of “the Troubles” forever, or will the town and its inhabitants continue to suffer the curse? Watch and see as tensions rise, allegiances shift and in a harrowing closing chapter, the mystery of “Croatoan” is finally revealed.

The final season (or second half of the fifth and final season to be precise) of ‘Haven’ picks up immediately where the first half of season five left us, with Mara finally gone for good and Audrey back in her body, the destruction of Mara has come at a cost as Duke inadvertently unleashes every trouble within himself throughout the town, infecting random individuals everywhere with random troubles. As if that wasn’t a large enough issue to tackle in itself, a wall of mist which no one other than Duke himself can pass through has entirely enclosed the town of Haven allowing no one in or out as things become far worse than ever before and the town erupts into chaos. Without any other options or outside assistance, Dwight and the town police force relinquish its duties to the Guard who take control until further notice. The only small bit of good news is that Charlotte may have just found a possible start to a process which if successful could eradicate Haven of the troubles once and for all without killing any of its residents in process.

The final 13 episode run of ‘Haven’ certainly gets to the core of the lingering mysteries remaining within the series and fans can rest assured that it doesn’t leave us with a wildly ambiguous and unsatisfactory ending, the series wraps up beautifully and even ties up some loose ends that I must admit even I had largely forgotten about. Fellow fans of this wonderful show that haven’t yet had the chance to check out the final season should likely be as thoroughly pleased with the conclusion as I was. The final thirteen episodes take you on quite the emotionally rollercoaster, so be prepared for one insane and at times painful, yet no less perfect conclusion to the remarkable series that is ‘Haven’.

Fellow fans of this spectacular SyFy series will definitely want to make certain to pick up a copy of ‘Haven: The Final Season’ (or ‘Season 5 Volume 2’ if you prefer) to complete their collection, especially for those who have already been collecting the previous season releases on Blu-ray. The release once again delivers the impressive high definition video and audio presentations we’ve come to expect and appreciate on all 13 of the final episodes, along with a healthy collection of extras including ‘Audio Commentary’ tracks on every episode and plenty more (more detailed information regarding the bonus content can be found in the special features section of the technical specification coverage below), sure to easily make this one a must own for many of the fellow fans.

Overall, ‘Haven: The Final Season’ provides everything fans such as myself have been waiting for and the final thirteen episodes perfectly conclude the series, taking you for an emotionally powerful and truly exhilarating ride in the process that anyone who has been following and enjoying the series will definitely not want to miss out on. For those who may not have yet had a chance to check out the final 13 episodes and are hesitant to make a blind purchase, you’ll definitely want to be sure and at least rent the episodes, if not find them on a streaming provider or something similar when possible. Many of the fellow hardcore fans who have been collecting the previous Blu-ray releases will almost surely want to make sure and pick up a copy of ‘The Final Season’ to complete their collections and therefore be able to relive this fantastic series in its entirety time and again.

VIDEO:

The Blu-ray release of ‘Haven: The Final Season’ features a full 1080p High Definition presentation utilizing the show’s original 1.78:1 Aspect Ratio on all of the final episodes. The video presentations look outstanding, delivering sharp, detailed and gorgeous presentations complimented by more than adequate bitrates on each of the 13 episodes, with no notable faults to be found within. They hold up impressively even during the numerous darkly lit and/or fast paced sequences, never causing anything occurring on screen to become negatively affected or rendered indiscernible. Overall, these are wonderful high definition video presentations that should easily please fellow fans of the series.

AUDIO:

The Blu-ray release features a lossless 5.1 channel DTS-HD Master Audio soundtrack on all 13 of the final episodes. These lossless multichannel soundtracks sound fantastic, providing clean, crisp and regularly aggressive audio presentation on every episode, frequently utilizing all five available channels in order to send a plethora of elements and objects, as well as the soundtrack throughout the rear channels, while never resulting in any dialogue which may be occurring simultaneously to become distorted or rendered inaudible. Overall, these are solid 5.1 channel DTS-HD MA soundtracks that immerse you just that much further into the final events of the series and they should not disappoint.

SPECIAL FEATURES:

The Blu-ray release of ‘Haven: The Final Season’ includes a notable collection of supplemental material. Included on the release are ‘Audio Commentary’ tracks on each of the 13 final episodes, plus ‘Inside Haven’ behind the scenes Featurettes for every episode as well (running approximately 41 minutes altogether). We are additionally treated to a couple of new Origins shorts: ‘Haven Origins: Lovers Conquered All’ (running approximately 9 minutes) and ‘Haven Origins: Trust Kills Fear’ (approximately 11 minutes). Also included on the release is a ‘Mythology Refresher’ (4 minutes), ‘Haven Revisited: Livestream Segments with the Cast and Crew’ (11 minutes altogether), ‘Haven Archives: Entries from the Crocker Diaries’ (7 minutes in total), and ‘Interviews’ with Lucas Bryant, Eric Balfour, William Shatner, Adam Copeland and Shawn Piller (44 minutes altogether).
